1974 RICKENBACKER 4005 MAPLEGLOW BASS FOR SALE
For sale is one 1974 Rickenbacker 4005 Thinline Hollow Body Bass in MapleGlow (natural) finish with original rectangular hardshell case. You read right- the unbelievably rare, most desirable Rick Bass model in the most desirable finish!!!!!!!!
This bass comes from the estate of the original owner. The serial number, MN 5XXX dates it at August of 1974, according to Richard R. Smith’s “The Complete History Of Rickenbacker Guitars", copyright 1987.
It is in 9 out of 10 condition, having some very minor belt buckle wear on the back which never broke through the finish, and some minor abrasion on the back of the neck including 2 wear-thru spots over the “skunk stripe”- from leaning the bass against some other object years ago.
The “R” tailpiece also shows some corrosion/pitting. These details are readily apparent in the high-resolution photographs. There is absolutely no wear-thru of the finish on the fret board, and only very slight fret wear under the strings from the first thru the seventh fret- it would easily dress out, if you were obsessive about fret condition. The only finish flaw on the fret board is a small ding between the 3rd and 4th strings at the 10th fret- not really noticeable unless you get it in the right light to scrutinize. There are about six tiny finish dings on the top of the bass that are roughly ¼ to ½ the size of an uncooked grain of rice. This bass was well cared for! This bass weighs approximately 8 ½ lbs. on my baby scale. Speaking of scale- the bass has a scale length of roughly 33 ¼”, by my tape measure.
The electronics and hardware are 100% original, and the bass sounds excellent, both plugged and acoustically. It’s loud enough unplugged to practice without need of an amp.
The neck/body joint is 100% solid, untouched and there have never been any cracks or structural repairs on this instrument.
The bass is set up with nickel roundwound strings and comes with it’s original black tolex Rickenbacker hardshell case and will help some lucky bassist enjoy his best Holiday Season ever!
